Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 September 2026
1. Who is responsible for your data?
Doyly Planet is operated by the Société Sherlock Holmes de France (SSHF), a French non-profit association (association loi 1901), whose registered office is at 15, rue Grande, 03370 Saint-Sauvier, France.
For questions about this Privacy Policy or the use of your personal data, contact us at newsletter@doyly-planet.com.
2. Personal data we collect
Depending on how you use Doyly Planet, we may process the following information:
- account information, such as your first name, last name, email address and language preference;
- subscription information, including your plan, subscription status, start and end dates and payment-related identifiers;
- payment records required to administer subscriptions and donations;
- newsletter information required to deliver the Doyly Planet newsletter and manage your subscription preferences;
- information you provide through the Contact form, including your name, email address, subject and message;
- technical and usage information generated when you use the website, including information collected through essential session cookies and Google Analytics 4.
3. Why we use your data
We use personal data only for purposes connected with operating Doyly Planet, including:
- creating and managing your account;
- processing and administering paid subscriptions;
- providing access to subscriber-only content, including the Archives;
- delivering the Doyly Planet newsletter;
- processing and recording donations;
- responding to messages and support requests;
- protecting the website, user accounts and subscription system against abuse or security incidents;
- measuring and understanding website usage through Google Analytics 4;
- meeting legal, accounting and administrative obligations.
4. Legal bases for processing
Where the GDPR applies, our processing is based on one or more of the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract: to create and manage your paid subscription, provide access to the service and deliver the newsletter included with your subscription.
- Legal obligations: where information must be kept or processed for accounting, tax or other legal requirements.
- Legitimate interests: to answer enquiries, administer the service, prevent abuse, maintain the security and reliability of Doyly Planet, and understand website traffic and usage through audience statistics, where those interests are not overridden by your rights and subject to any separate rules that may apply to cookies or similar technologies.
5. Payments and PayPal
Payments for Doyly Planet subscriptions and donations are processed through PayPal. Payment information submitted to PayPal is processed under PayPal's own terms and privacy practices. Doyly Planet receives and stores the information needed to identify and administer payments, subscriptions and donations, but does not ask you to enter payment card details directly into Doyly Planet.
6. Newsletter and Infomaniak
Doyly Planet uses Infomaniak services for hosting, email and newsletter delivery. Information required for newsletter delivery, such as your email address and relevant subscription preferences, may therefore be processed through Infomaniak's systems.
If you opt out of newsletter delivery, we use that preference to stop or prevent further newsletter delivery while retaining information that may still be required to administer your account or subscription.
7. Cookies and analytics
Doyly Planet uses strictly necessary session cookies to support functions such as Login, Logout and maintaining an authenticated session. These cookies are required for the website to function properly.
Doyly Planet also uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to measure website traffic and understand how the site is used. The GA4 tag is loaded when pages are viewed and may use cookies or similar technologies. Information processed through GA4 may include page views, interactions, device and browser information, approximate location and technical identifiers used for audience measurement. Doyly Planet uses GA4 for website statistics and does not use it to identify visitors by name.
Doyly Planet does not currently use any other analytics platform or advertising tracker.
8. Who receives your data?
Personal data may be made available, only where necessary, to:
- authorised administrators of the Société Sherlock Holmes de France responsible for Doyly Planet;
- Infomaniak, for hosting, email and newsletter services;
- PayPal, for payment and subscription processing;
- Google, in connection with Google Analytics 4;
- public authorities or other recipients where disclosure is required by law.
We do not sell your personal data.
9. International transfers
Some service providers may process data outside France or outside the European Economic Area. Where the GDPR applies, such transfers must be covered by an applicable adequacy decision, contractual safeguards or another lawful transfer mechanism.
10. How long we keep your data
We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including:
- account and subscription information for the duration of the account or subscription and, where necessary, afterwards for legal, accounting, security or dispute-resolution purposes;
- payment and donation records for the period required by applicable accounting and legal obligations;
- Contact form correspondence for as long as needed to handle the request and any reasonable follow-up;
- newsletter-related information for as long as needed to provide the newsletter service, respect opt-out choices and administer the associated account;
- Google Analytics data according to the retention settings configured for Doyly Planet's GA4 property and Google's applicable technical rules.
11. Your rights
Where the GDPR applies, you may have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, data portability and withdrawal of consent where processing is based on consent. These rights may be subject to conditions or exceptions provided by law.
To exercise your rights, contact newsletter@doyly-planet.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés (CNIL), or another competent supervisory authority.
12. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, alteration or disclosure. No online service can, however, guarantee absolute security.
13. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when Doyly Planet's services, providers or legal obligations change. The date at the top of this page indicates the most recent update.
